# 2024 # Author Interview

Stephanie R. Caffrey - Be My Little Baby #AuthorInterview

What does your writing process look like?

I’m a planster, so I do a little planning and then I let my muse and characters take me away. Before starting a book, I will do some research about what I’m writing, for example for Be My Little Baby I did a lot of research into British Baked Goods and CCTV footage. And then I’ll develop my characters really well. I have several character sheets I fill out answering all sorts of questions about them, and really digging into who they are. That way, as I’m writing I know how my characters would act in every given scenario. After my draft is finished, I give it a rough edit, and then send it to three beta readers. These are people who will read the book and then critique it deeply. They will find my plot holes, they will tell me what does and doesn’t work. And once I get the book back from all three people, I will do my deep edit on it.

Do you have any strange writing habits (like standing on your head or writing in the shower)?

I can’t listen to music with lyrics while I write, but I can’t write in absolute silence either, so I either listen to instrumentals or I’ll listen to songs in Spanish, since I don’t speak Spanish, but the rhythm of Spanish music really helps the words come out.

What book do you wish you could have written?

Jane Eyre one of the original romantic suspense books.

If you could cast your characters in the Hollywood adaptation of your book, who would play your characters?

Domhnall Gleeson as James

Jamila Velasquez as Tessa

What question do you wish that someone would ask about your book, but nobody has? Write it out here, then answer it.

Is Tessa, or any of your heroines, a self-insert based on you? The answer is not really. While they have some aspects of my personality, they’re not fully based on me.

How long have you been writing?

I have been writing since I was probably in about fourth grade. I’ve always had this urge to get words on paper and tell stories.

What kind(s) of writing do you do?

In addition to writing romantic suspense novels, I write fanfiction in very niche fandoms. I also maintain a book review blog where I not only share what books I read every month, I also read and review ARCs.

Can you share some stories about people you met while researching this book?

In my fanfiction days, I was very involved in the Harry Potter community. After I finished my first draft of my first London Detective Agency book, Mistaken Identity, I decided I really needed it to be BritPicked, aka have a British person read it and make sure my British characters read as British. I put feelers out in a Discord group I was in, and I found Louise. Louise has been my BritPicker since 2018. She has read both Mistaken Identity and Be My Little Baby and really helped this American out. She’s become a dear friend.

When Tessa Lopez opened her shop Cake Me Home Tonight, she expected to barely break even, instead she’s become one of the most popular shops in London. It’s not all good though. Someone is stalking her, sending her letters and photographs. When the police can’t help, she goes to newly famous private detective James Moore for help. As they work to solve who her stalker is, Tessa and James have an undeniable attraction to one another. But James doesn’t date clients, or so he keeps repeating.

As the two grow closer, and the stalker grows bolder, will the two be able to resist their attraction? And will James figure out who is stalking Tessa before it is too late?
