#Article - Damage by Female #SerialKillers

Friday, May 31, 2024 0 Comments

Let's talk about the extent of the damage wrought by female serial killers on victims and the complex functions behind their actions.

Female serial killers often use non-traditional killing methods, such as poisoning, suffocation, and neglect, resulting in lesser brutality and mercy killing. However, this does not diminish the gravity of their crimes. Female serial killer's criminal actions are often more prolonged, taking place over longer durations and killing more victims.

Research shows that female serial killers are responsible for at least ten percent of all known serial killings in the United States, and their unique method presents a challenge to law enforcement in recognizing and identifying them.

Female serial killers are more likely to use a less confrontational and less violent method of killing, and as such, can evade identification more easily. Furthermore, they may elicit sympathy and trust from their victims, often presenting a maternal or nurturing facade. As a result, investigations and prosecution can become delayed and prolonged, and the extent of their crimes may go unnoticed and unaddressed.

The rise of female serial killers represents a growing challenge for law enforcement agencies and mental health practitioners. Female serial killers have unique motivations, methods, and psychological profiles that set them apart from their male counterparts. They are likely to use a non-violent method of killing and to seem sympathetic and trustworthy, making it more challenging to identify and prosecute them.

Because of the lack of identification and documentation, accurate estimations of the prevalence of female serial killers are difficult to generate. However, understanding the motivators behind their actions, including past trauma, personality disorders, and environmental factors, can help develop more informed approaches to prevention and intervention.

#Article - The Psychology Behind Female #SerialKillers

Friday, May 24, 2024 0 Comments

In part two of this four-part series, we explored the various motivations of female serial killers. In this third part, we will delve into the psychology behind their behavior.

Research has shown that various factors impact a female serial killer's mental state, including prior trauma, personality, and environmental factors. Here are some of the most significant psychological factors associated with female serial killers.

Personality Disorders

Personality disorders, including Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD), are common among female serial killers. Such disorders can result in impulsivity, poor impulse control, and a lack of empathy, all of which can lead to the commission of aggressive acts.

Trauma and Abuse

Like male serial killers, many female serial killers have experienced significant trauma and abuse in their lives. Survivors of early childhood abuse or neglect may develop PTSD, dissociative disorders, or other psychiatric illnesses that may lead to inadequate emotion regulation and deviant, impulsive behavior.

Environmental Factors

Environmental factors play a significant role in the development of female serial killers. This includes poverty, parental neglect, and exposure to violence or crime. This exposure can result in the development of mental illness, substance abuse, and criminal behavior.

Psychopathy

Female serial killers often have features of psychopathy, which means they present a shallow affect, cruelty, and are skilled in deceiving individuals. These traits can facilitate serial killings and the ability to evade detection.

Female serial killers’ motivations and behaviors exhibit a profound relationship between various psychological factors associated with their growth and development. Environmental factors, trauma and abuse, and personality and psychological disorders are more prevalent in female serial killers than in male ones. The various psychological factors linked to female serial killer behavior form part of a complex set of socio-cultural and individual factors that make them different from male serial killers.

#Article - Understanding the Motivations of Female #SerialKillers

Friday, May 17, 2024 0 Comments

In part one of this four-part series, we highlighted the rise of female serial killers and the history behind their lack of recognition and documentation. In this second part, we will explore the motivations of female serial killers.

Research has shown that the motivations behind female serial killers vary from those of male serial killers. Additionally, studies demonstrate that female serial killers often engage in less violent and less aggressive methods of killing compared to male serial killers.

The following are some of the most common motivations behind female serial killers:

Money or Financial Gain

One of the prevalent motivations behind female serial killers is financial gain. Women who are struggling financially or living in poverty may turn to murder to make up for their lack of income. Female serial killers often use methods such as insurance fraud or inheritance scams to gain financial benefit from their crimes.

Attention Seeking

Female serial killers may sometimes commit murders to obtain attention. Women may have a strong need to feel wanted, recognized, or admired and may commit serial killings to obtain this attention. This kind of motivation is more common in women than men.

Revenge

Another motivation for female serial killers is revenge. Women who have suffered abuse, rape, or other forms of trauma may turn to revenge killings as a method of taking back their power and holding those responsible accountable. This kind of motivation often results from prior trauma experiences, making women more susceptible than men.

Sexual Motivations

Although not as common as in males, sexual motivation can be present among female serial killers. Women who take pleasure in manipulating or dominating their sexual partners may engage in serial killing to gratify themselves. However, this motivation is not always present, and it’s pertinent to note that most female sexual offenders are different from serial killers.

Female serial killers offer distinct reasons and motivations behind the crimes they commit. While men often present violent or aggressive behavior, women often use less violent or more controlled methods. As such, the motivations that drive them differ as well, and money, attention-seeking, revenge, and sexual desires are some of the reasons that women cite in committing serial murder. Examining the motivations of women who engage in serial killing can allow for a better understanding of these crimes and may inform preventative measures. In part three of this series, we will discuss the psychological factors involved in female serial killer behavior.

#Article - Introduction to the Rise of Female #SerialKillers

Friday, May 10, 2024 0 Comments

Since Pieces of You is finally available, I thought I'd do a mini-series on female serial killers

When we think of serial killers, we often picture men committing heinous acts. However, recent studies have shown that women are increasingly involved in serial murders. While female serial killers have always existed, their rise has been more frequently documented in recent years.

This four-part article series will discuss the increase of female serial killers, their motivations, and the psychology behind their crimes.

This first part will highlight the progress made in the recognition and documentation of female serial killers over the decades.

Historical Perspective of Female Serial Killers

Female serial killers have existed throughout history, but recorded data on this subject has been relatively recent. Historically, patriarchal societies accepted behavior that granted men the sole authority to commit violence, including murder. Thus, the legality of their actions affected the perception and documentation of male and female victims alike.

Further, few studies and literature were available on women’s serial killing behavior, resulting in a lack of reliable data, which was only accessible retrospectively. Thus, the identification of women as serial killers was infrequent, and convictions concerning women's serial killings were scarce.

That has changed over the past several decades as leading research institutions take a serious interest in the topic and have been exploring the rise in female serial killers. Presently, researchers are attempting to generate accurate and current data about the prevalence and motivations behind women's serial killing behavior.

The Changing Landscape

Recent studies show the number of women committing premeditated murder has risen over the years. Although men still remain prevalent in committing serial murders, the number of female serial killers has been increasing. Presently, over a hundred documented cases of women engaged in serial killing with different motivations.

While a proportion of female serial killers base their motivations on power and dominance, others develop them in reaction to past trauma. Research is now exploring the motivations and why women become serial killers as an independent class of offenders.

As a result of their increasingly publicized acts, conversations have begun and interest piqued in concerns surrounding women and crime history in general.

Female serial killers have existed throughout history, but their predatory behavior was concealed, overlooked, and often undocumented. However, recent studies have identified an increase in the rate and prevalence of female serial killers. With growing recognition, research attention, and documentation of their actions, we can have a better understanding of their motivations and the causes behind such behaviors. In part two of this series, we will explore the motivations that drive women to commit serial murders.

Does Every Character Need a Background? #writing #authors

Sunday, April 07, 2024 3 Comments

While providing a detailed background for every character in a story can certainly add depth and richness to your narrative, it is not always necessary for every character to have an extensive background. The level of detail you provide for each character's background should depend on their importance to the story and the role they play.

Here are some considerations regarding whether every character needs a background:

1. Protagonists and Major Characters: It is typically essential for protagonists and major characters to have well-developed backgrounds. Understanding their past experiences, motivations, and relationships can help readers connect with them on a deeper level and make their actions and decisions more meaningful.

2. Supporting Characters: While supporting characters may not require as extensive a background as main characters, giving them some depth and backstory can make them more realistic and engaging. Even a few key details about their past or motivations can help flesh out their role in the story.

3. Minor Characters: For minor or background characters who have limited impact on the plot, providing detailed backgrounds may not be necessary. In some cases, a brief description or a few defining traits may be sufficient to establish their presence in the story without delving into their entire history.

4. Purpose and Impact on the Story: Consider the function of each character within the narrative. Characters who significantly influence the plot, contribute to themes, or serve as foils to the main characters may benefit from a more developed background to enhance their role in the story.

Ultimately, the decision of how much background information to provide for each character should serve the overall storytelling goals and contribute to the reader's understanding and engagement with the narrative. Striking a balance between depth of characterization and pacing is key to creating a compelling and well-rounded cast of characters.

#Writing a #Story Without #Plot

Saturday, April 06, 2024 0 Comments

Writing a story without a traditional plot can be a unique and experimental approach to storytelling. Here are some tips for writing a story without a plot:

1. Focus on Character Exploration: Instead of relying on a structured plot, you can center your story around rich and complex characters. Explore their thoughts, emotions, relationships, and inner conflicts in depth to drive the narrative.

2. Embrace Stream of Consciousness: Consider using a stream-of-consciousness writing style, where you allow the thoughts and feelings of your characters to flow freely onto the page. This can create a sense of immediacy and intimacy in your story.

3. Experiment with Writing Techniques: Try incorporating different writing techniques such as flash fiction, vignettes, letters, diary entries, or nonlinear storytelling to weave together a narrative without a traditional plot.

4. Focus on Themes and Atmosphere: Instead of a plot-driven story, you can focus on exploring themes, moods, and atmospheres. Create a vivid sense of place and immerse your readers in the world you've created.

5. Use Symbolism and Imagery: Incorporate symbolism and vivid imagery to evoke emotions and convey deeper meanings in your story. Symbolic elements can help create a sense of cohesion and depth in a plotless narrative.

6. Let the Story Evolve Organically: Allow your story to unfold naturally without forcing it into a predetermined plot structure. Stay open to where the characters and their interactions take you, and let the narrative develop organically.

7. Experiment and Have Fun: Above all, writing a story without a plot can be a liberating and creative experience. Embrace the freedom to experiment, take risks, and challenge traditional storytelling conventions.

Remember that writing a story without a plot may not appeal to all readers, but it can be a rewarding and enriching creative exercise that allows you to explore new possibilities in storytelling.

#IndieAuthor - The Reality for Many - Struggles, Dreams, Hopes & Goals

Monday, March 25, 2024 0 Comments

This is a tough post for me to write. I am always positive and push through any obstacles that come my way -2023/2024 has been an emotional and financial disaster for me (and many other Indie Authors - though we only hear from the ones that are thriving).

Let's change that.

Let's bring to light those that are having difficulties and struggling.

I have a day job - but the pay is nowhere what I need being a single-income household in AZ. I do not want roommates (too many AZ horror stories) and I never want to ever be in another relationship.

I had thought about adding PA openings to my book services since I have been around doing this for over 14 years. But, to make what I need, even charging the high rate of $200/month which I see so many listings at, I'd need 40 authors to sign with me.

We all know that isn't happening.

My rent is over 35% of my income. I was supposed to have my next promotion in 8 months, it was 16 and nada -so I switched orgs with my company. I am looking at July(ish) of next year before they can promote me and am told it's only an increase of $5K a year.

WHAT???

That's $416 a month before taxes.

It will not even make a dent in the amount of income I need to make.

I thought hiring a company to do the cover reveal would get some pre-orders in for my book release. The cover reveal had 40 on the list -- 14 actually posted. In 9 days after -- ZERO pre-orders. And I am out money that I did not have to spare....even if I broke even, I could live with it.

I've paid for 3 more...so we will see what happens.

Many of us are out here struggling and have the goal of doing what we love - being a full-time author.

I will be hitting the big 50 next year and am nowhere near where I thought I would be at that age.

I want to buy a house. I want to do something I love. I don't want to have to decide which bills I can pay and which will have to stack up month after month until there is a disconnect threat.

Social media has become almost impossible to navigate. One day you have 1600+ connections on X (Twitter) and the next day you are down to 1500. TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, etc --seem to be shadow-banning indie authors....or at least those of us who are trying to make our name and get out there.

Suggestions? Is anyone getting tried and true results? Does anyone want to form a team of us that promote and share one another?

I know times are hard for so many of us -- remember sharing is FREE.

I will be putting together an India Author Book Expo for 2024 -please feel free to reach out for details.

Factors to Consider When Hiring a #PA (#personalassistant) #IndieAuthor #WritingCommunity

Sunday, March 24, 2024 0 Comments

1. Organizational and Administrative Skills: A PA should excel in organization, time management, and administrative tasks. Look for someone who can efficiently handle scheduling, email management, bookkeeping, and other administrative responsibilities to help streamline your author business.

2. Communication Skills: Effective communication is crucial for a PA. They should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, as they may be corresponding with readers, publishers, agents, and other professionals on your behalf. Clear and prompt communication is essential for maintaining professional relationships.

3. Familiarity with the Publishing Industry: While not mandatory, it can be beneficial to hire a PA who has some understanding of the publishing industry. They should be familiar with publishing terms, industry trends, and common practices. This knowledge can help them navigate tasks related to book launches, promotions, and interactions with publishers or distributors.

4. Tech-Savviness: In today's digital age, a PA should be comfortable and proficient with various software, online tools, and social media platforms. They should be able to assist with managing your website, social media accounts, email marketing, and other digital platforms you use to engage with readers and promote your work.

5. Attention to Detail: A PA should have a keen eye for detail to ensure accuracy in tasks such as proofreading, data entry, and manuscript formatting. They should be meticulous in their work to maintain a high level of professionalism in all aspects of your author business.

6. Trustworthiness and Confidentiality: Since a PA often handles sensitive information, it's essential to hire someone trustworthy and capable of maintaining confidentiality. They may have access to your financial records, unpublished manuscripts, and personal correspondence, so ensure they have a reputation for discretion and integrity.

7. Flexibility and Adaptability: As an indie author, your needs may change frequently. Look for a PA who is flexible and adaptable, able to handle shifting priorities and take on new responsibilities as your author journey progresses. They should be willing to learn and grow alongside you.

8. References and Experience: When evaluating potential PAs, ask for references and inquire about their previous experience. Look for testimonials or recommendations from other authors or clients they have worked with. Their past experience can give you insights into their capabilities and work ethic.

9. Compatibility and Personality Fit: It's important to find a PA with whom you have good chemistry and compatibility. You'll be working closely together, so a positive working relationship is vital. Consider their personality, communication style, and whether they share your values and work ethic.

10. Trial Period: Consider starting with a trial period to assess whether the PA is a good fit for your specific needs. This allows both parties to evaluate the working relationship before committing to a long-term arrangement.

Remember to clearly communicate your expectations, goals, and preferences to potential PAs during the hiring process. By finding the right PA, you can delegate tasks, free up time, and focus on your writing, ultimately helping you thrive as an indie author.

Exploring the Power of Conciseness: Short Stories versus Novels #WritingCommunity

Tuesday, March 19, 2024 0 Comments

As avid readers, we find ourselves drawn to both short stories and novels, each offering a unique literary experience. Short stories, with their brevity and focused narratives, captivate us with their concise storytelling, while novels, with their expansive worlds and intricate plotlines, allow for a deeper immersion into complex narratives. In this article, we will delve into the strengths and characteristics of both forms, highlighting the distinct pleasures they offer to readers.

1. Short Stories: The Art of Precision

Short stories are masterpieces of conciseness, requiring authors to distill their narratives into a tight and focused format. With limited space, every word and sentence carries weight, making each element of the story essential. Short stories often explore a single theme, moment, or character, delivering a concentrated impact that lingers in the reader's mind.

Their brevity allows for quick consumption, making short stories an ideal choice for readers with limited time or those seeking a self-contained narrative experience. The compressed structure enables authors to experiment with unconventional storytelling techniques, such as non-linear narratives or open-ended conclusions, leaving room for interpretation and reflection.

2. Novels: Immersive and Expansive Narratives

Novels, in contrast, provide a rich and immersive experience, allowing authors to develop intricate plots, multifaceted characters, and expansive worlds. With the luxury of time and space, authors can explore various subplots, themes, and character arcs, weaving a tapestry of interconnecting narratives that engage readers for extended periods.

The novel's length allows for in-depth character development, enabling readers to form deep emotional connections with the protagonists and supporting cast. Novels often tackle complex societal issues, exploring the human condition in a broader context. The expansiveness of the form encourages authors to create intricate plotlines, incorporating twists, turns, and suspense that keep readers engaged over the long haul.

3. Choosing the Right Form: The Reader's Dilemma

The choice between short stories and novels ultimately depends on the reader's preferences and circumstances. Short stories offer the allure of immediate gratification, allowing readers to experience a complete narrative in a brief sitting. They are perfect for those seeking a quick escape, a momentary immersion, or a taste of an author's style.

Novels, on the other hand, provide a deeper and more sustained reading experience, ideal for readers who relish the immersion, intricacies, and character development that come with a longer narrative. Novels are perfect for those who enjoy the journey as much as the destination and appreciate the gradual unfolding of a complex story.

Short stories and novels are both integral parts of the literary landscape, each with its own merits and pleasures. Short stories captivate us with their precision, brevity, and focused impact, while novels immerse us in expansive narratives, allowing for in-depth characterization and complex plotlines.

As readers, we are fortunate to have the choice between these two forms, depending on our mood, time constraints, or desired reading experience. Whether we seek the immediate satisfaction of a short story or the long-lasting immersion of a novel, both offer unique and fulfilling literary journeys that continue to captivate and inspire readers around the world.
