# 2024 # Phobia Series

Day 1: Welcome to the Depths – What Are Phobias? #phobia #phobiaseries

Welcome, my fellow thrill-seekers, to a month-long descent into the dark corners of the human mind. If you're here, you probably already know that fear is a funny thing. It can be as small as the tickle in the back of your throat when the lights flicker out, or as massive as the weight on your chest when you're teetering on the edge of something unknown. But what about when fear grips you by the throat and refuses to let go, even when the threat isn’t real? That, my dear readers, is what we call a phobia.

Now, I’m not talking about the garden-variety fear that you shake off after a good night’s sleep. I’m talking about the deep, visceral terror that lingers, claws at your sanity, and makes your heart race even in the safety of daylight. These phobias are the stuff nightmares are made of, and they’re also the perfect breeding ground for the stories that have kept you up at night… stories like the ones I’ve spun in my books.

You see, phobias are the invisible puppeteers that pull our strings, making us dance to the tune of our darkest fears. And throughout this month, we’re going to shine a light into those shadowy places, one phobia at a time. From the creeping dread of arachnophobia to the bone-chilling terror of necrophobia, each day we’ll explore a different fear, peeling back the layers to reveal what really makes us tremble.

But this isn’t just a journey through a list of scary words. Oh no, it’s much more personal than that. These phobias have been whispered about in the dark corners of our collective psyche, woven into the tales our ancestors told to keep us safe—or to scare us witless. And as we navigate these fears together, I want you to think about how they touch your own life. Have you ever felt the suffocating grip of claustrophobia in a crowded elevator? Or the spine-tingling chill of spectrophobia when you catch something in the mirror that just shouldn't be there?

Over the next 31 days, I’ll be sharing not just the origins and psychology behind these phobias, but also how they can twist and turn in the world of horror. Whether you’re here because you’re a writer looking for your next spine-chilling plot twist, or you’re just a curious soul who enjoys dancing with the darkness, I promise you won’t be disappointed.

And while you’re here, don’t forget to dig into my backlist. My books are steeped in the same eerie atmospheres and creeping dread we’ll be exploring this month. If you haven’t yet, now’s the perfect time to immerse yourself in the worlds I’ve created, where fear is more than just a fleeting feeling—it’s a living, breathing entity that shapes the lives of my characters.

So, are you ready to face your fears? If you are, then buckle up—it’s going to be a month-long ride into the unknown. And if you have a phobia of your own that you want to see covered, drop it in the comments below. Who knows? It might just be the next one I dissect.

Welcome to the dark side of October, my friends. Let’s make it one to remember.
