They say "Speak it into being." -- That is goal #1 with this post.
Do I want to attain this?
Yes.
Will I beat myself up if life takes over and I can't achieve it?
No.
Setting realistic attainable goals can be difficult. Especially for a writer that has a more than 50-hour-a-week job and will have no choice other than to pick up a second job soon.
My dream is to be a full-time author. However, in recent months, I have seen several writers and book marketers leave due to lack of pay and deciding to cut their losses and focus on day jobs. I know it may end up being me as well, but I am hoping that in 5 years (or less) I can be a full-time writer and pay all my bills - live comfortably with just a bit extra, I don't need to be a billionaire (though I'd never turn it down - I'd have the opportunity to help so many people).
2023 is not on my 5-year plan. Do I plan to release anything?
I'd like to. But, I'm not going to beat myself up if I don't. If I have 8 books ready for 2024, then I will release 2 of those during 2023 and take 6 with me into 2024. I do feel I need to have a "padding" (so to speak) of 6 books ready to go for the new year in order to finish up 6 more and be on track for 6 in 2025.
Will I only release 6 books in 2025?
I hope to release at least 12 per year - but - best-laid plans and all. I figure if I allow myself the grace of fewer books every other year, I won't feel as if I failed and I will have a bit more flexibility in my overbooked schedule.
The below releases are a "hopeful" schedule. Even if I make my minimum per year, the books being released may change. The reasons can be almost anything, especially - editing issues, scene issues, beta reading delays, editing delays, cover delays, marketing delays, etc. So, please know that what I list below is somewhat of a rough draft, not a guarantee.
