Book Review: The Lighthouse of Mr. Tinfish

Summary from Shelfari: Mr. Tinfish the penguin lives with his family in an old oil drum at the edge of the sea, which he likes to think of as his barrel-lighthouse. Unfortunately since the time of the people the climate has been subject to sudden changes and a rapid rise in sea level creates problems, not only for the barrel-lighthouse, but for all of the animals and birds who are part of the colony. Luckily Mr. Vinegar the Walrus enjoys feeling important during a good crisis, and enlists the help of Mr. Choli and Mr. Ginger, the cats.

My Review: The first thing I need to point out, not only does this author write children's books, but for years now, he's dedicated his time to do charity projects in developing countries.

Nature is the problem of this book. Mr. Tinfish, a penguin, and his friends are dealing with climate changes and sea level changes. This book gives your child insight into the  effects of nature on the earth and what this does to our wildlife.

I'm a huge animal rights activist and always say I prefer animals over most people {I'm joking, most days, I think}. This book shows, in an understandable way, how the environment can change and cause trouble. Wonderful character development in the animals. They're all unique and have their own *agenda*.

There are expeditions that the friends go on to learn to adapt to the changes.

Changes are inevitable, we can stop some of them, the others we have to learn to adapt to. This is a wonderful book. Your child is learning, but likely won't realize it. 

I'm working this into our homeschool curriculum after the first of the year. A must have book for every family.
