Book Review: April & Oliver

Summary from GoodReads:
Best friends since childhood, the sexual tension between April and Oliver has always been palpable. Years after being completely inseparable, they become strangers, but the wildly different paths of their lives cross once again with the sudden death of April's brother. Oliver, the responsible, newly engaged law student finds himself drawn more than ever to the reckless, mystifying April - and cracks begin to appear in his carefully constructed life. Even as Oliver attempts to "save" his childhood friend from her grief, her menacing boyfriend and herself, it soon becomes apparent that Oliver has some secrets of his own--secrets he hasn't shared with anyone, even his fiancé. But April knows, and her reappearance in his life derails him. Is it really April's life that is unraveling, or is it his own? The answer awaits at the end of a downward spiral...towards salvation.

My Review: I have to admit, I was dying to read this book. It was driving me crazy {literally} seeing it sit on my TBR shelf and having other books to read first. It doesn't take much to excite me these days, just the anticipation of diving into another great read.

As of the first chapter, it was official -- I was hooked. This book focuses on family, heartbreak, the delicate webs of friendship and love. The love within this book covers returned and unreturned. April is the not so good girl with a past that she wants to keep part of buried, Oliver is the all star male character. Tragedy brings them back together after years of separation. So, this book does have your regular book characters, but the story is well told...a classic format.

The ending of this book really left me wanting more. There wasn't the classical *it all worked out and everyone lived happily ever after* ending. What's going on with April & Oliver now? From a business sense, I can see this as a great opportunity for Tess to create a second book for a possible series based on April & Oliver. Although the storyline was predictable, it was still a refreshing and wonderful read. It would be a welcomed addition to most any book collection.

  1. Sounds like something I'd enjoy reading if it's going to be a series. I hate unresolved ending but that's just me. Well done Mystee! Great review!

  2. I absolutely adored this book. I think it screams sequel, but from what I've read, she's not talking about doing one. It is one of my favorite 2010 reads. I'm glad you liked it!

  3. This is going to be on my Borders shopping list too. I love to see books take a chance and go in an abnormal ending direction. So many authors ply it safe and it's like your reading hte same book for the 100th time. Thanks for this review Mystee.
