Book Review: Deadly Fear

Summary from GoodReads: TWO BRILLIANT AGENTS

FBI Special Agent Monica Davenport has made a career out of profiling serial killers. But getting inside the twisted minds of the cruel and the sadistic has taken its toll: She's walled herself off from the world. Yet Monica can't ignore fellow agent Luke Dante, the only man who ever broke through her defenses.

ONE DREAM TEAM

Luke has the unique ability to put victims at ease . . . professionally, he and Monica made a perfect team. Now they're reunited to catch a murderer who uses his victims' deepest, darkest fears for sport - but their investigative skills aren't enough. Luke and Monica will have to face the secrets from their past, the ones that terrify them the most, if they are to have a future together.

But can they catch a killer whose weapon is . . .

My Review: Let me just say how much I was impressed by this book. This was one that after reading the back cover, I really expected not to like. I was right, I didn't like it -- I LOVED it.

There's murder, serial killers, FBI agents, profilers, secrets, danger, past flings, relationships and so much more all packed into this one book. Cynthia Eden pulls this off wonderfully. It's not overdone, it's not lacking. It's not jumbled. Just perfect.

Monica Davenport's character as a profiler who can get into the most twisted serial killer mind is great. She's strong, hence her nickname of Ice, but don't let that outside coating fool you. She puts on her Ice effect in order to do her job, to stay on track, to be successful. But, even from the beginning of the book, we can see that this is not her only side. And just wait until overly confident Luke Dante enters the picture to work with her. But, what are they hiding? Follow them and their Dream Team of agents as they take on the worst cases and hunt down the killers.

This is the first book by Cynthia that I have read, but you can be sure that I'm going to be picking up more of them. Don't get enough of CSI, SVU, Criminal Minds or Bones? Pick up this book between your show times. This is a book that you won't want to put down until you've read the last page. This would make an awesome movie.

Be watching for book 2 in this series: Deadly Heat which should be available in Feb 2011.
