# 2024 # A to Z Challenge 2024

#AtoZChallenge - Blackwood Manor #Cozy Mystery - Part Q #BlogBoost

Ryan shrugged. He was a detective, not some home remodeling guru.
Suddenly, a faint sound caught their attention. Claire and Ryan exchanged a knowing look before following the sound to a hidden staircase leading down into the depths of the building.
With trepidation, they descended into the darkness, using their cell phone lights to cut through the shadows like knives. As they reached the bottom, they found themselves in a dimly lit chamber, its walls adorned with faded murals and cryptic symbols.
“What is this place?” Ryan muttered, his voice tinged with unease, looking at Oliver for answers.
Claire stepped forward, her eyes scanning the room for clues. “I think… I think this was where they performed the experiments. The ones Henry mentioned.”
“You spoke to Henry?” Oliver asked, sounding more than a bit concerned. He quickly changed his look and modified the sound of his voice. “What could that crazy old man possibly know?”
“Crazy?’ Ryan asked. “He sounded fully well to the both of us yesterday.” Ryan scratched the stubble on his chin. “How do you know him?”
“Doesn’t everyone?” Oliver asked with ease. “It’s been long rumored that he took care of this place, even well after it was abandoned.”
“How do you know that? You’re new to town.” Ryan felt the detective in him coming out.
“Again, doesn’t everyone know the tales of this place? Yes, I am an outsider, but I did my research before purchasing the asylum.” Oliver stated.
“If you did your research, why would you still want to buy? They gave up on selling this place decades ago.” Ryan stopped for an uneasy pause. “Matter of fact, they haven’t even had it listed for sale in ages, no sign in front, no internet listings…” He trailed off.
