My Review:
We meet Fiona, a very bratty, mouthy and almost annoying {to me anyway} character. She has a husband that beats her, then goes missing. The husband's father is a real piece of work as well. Abusing power and those around him, even while dying.
I love Highland novels with the thoughts of wonderful Highland warriors saving the female. But this book, just didn't give me that feeling.
The Highlanders Fiona is around seem more abusive than warrior worthy. There is no *honor* for many of the male characters in the book.
As Will {Fiona's husband} is missing, a little flirting starts between Kirkhill {who, you must track the name on, as he's referred to by at least three during the book} and Fiona. Nothing is really there. A shallow sort of relationship built more on lust. Even with it being based on lust, they don't even kiss for hundreds of pages.
Even at pages as high as 374 there is still reference to the what about for Will and Fiona while she's begging Kirkhill to take her to bed.
Though well written, this book was really not one for me {which really disappointed me as I'm always on the look out for Highland novels}. It is more aimed at the reader who is fascinated with distress, turmoil and struggle. I know a lot of people enjoy the twists and turns and the getting close to be pulled back again. So, this book is for you.
