#BookReview 4 - House of Prayer #2 by Mark Richard

Book Description Crippled by deformed hips as a child, Mark Richard was told he would spend his adult life in a wheelchair. The son of an unpredictable, violent father and a mother who sought inner peace through scripture, Richard spent his bedridden childhood in the company of books. As a young man, he set out to experience as much of the world as possible before his hips failed him. He spent years doing odd JOBS and getting into trouble, grappling throughout with his faith and his calling, before winning a national fiction contest and launching an extraordinary writing career.

In this irresistible blend of history, travelogue, and personal reflection, Richard draws a remarkable portrait of a writer’s struggle with his faith, the evolution of his art, and the recognition of one’s singularity in the face of painful disability.

Review: This memoir is unique from the very first pages. The first thing you may notice is that it's written in second person. At first, for a memoir, I wasn't sure how I'd like it. But as I moved through the book, it was actually a refreshing spin on things.

Mark Richards went through so many experiences as an outcast...as this...as that. Doctors made speculations, many Mark overcame.
I think this is one of those inspiring stories that you don't hear about often enough. This is a must read for anyone with any type of illness, for any parent with a child that is *labeled* as different. This is a have to read for those that judge others in public, not knowing what conditions may be present beneath the surface. This book is even for the reader that wants to hear a brilliantly told story of overcoming and changing.
