My Review: This is book 2 {Book 1--A Latina Story}. I have not read book 1. This, however, is a stand alone book and you really don't need to have read the first in order to read this one.
Esperanza has lived her life in the barrio. Through one event and another she eventually gets the chance to turn her life around, be with a wonderful person that she loves, leave the barrio and move on to a much better life. She struggles with this decision and her mom still living there.
This becomes another book of "do I change or don't I?" At points I struggled with the way the book was written, I never really got drawn in. This book is definitely for those who enjoy the potential of an almost rags to riches story and someone getting to move on into a life they thought they'd never have for themselves.
