Carla Neggers

CARRIAGE HOUSE Series

I will say -- research her other series as well!

Book 1 -

Fun and a little hard work. That's all Tess Haviland has in mind when Ike Grantham pays her for her graphic design work on the run-down nineteenth-century carriage house on Boston's North Shore.

Then Ike disappears and Tess finds herself with much more than a simple weekend project to get her out of the city. It's not just the rumors that the carriage house is haunted—it's the neighbors: six-year-old Dolly Thorne, her reclusive babysitter, Harley Beckett…and especially Dolly's father, Andrew Thorne, who has his own ideas about why Tess has turned up next door.

But when Tess discovers a human skeleton in her dirt cellar, she begins to ask questions about the history of the carriage house, the untimely death of Andrew's wife…and Ike's disappearance. Questions a desperate killer wants to silence before the truth reveals that someone got away with murder.

Abigail Keam

A beekeeper cozy series! Bees! I love this (can you tell?)! These started in 2010 and last publish was in 2022. There are 17 books (so far) in the series. Here's a bit about book 1 -

Josiah Reynolds is a beekeeper trying to stay financially afloat by selling honey at the Farmers' Market. She finds her world turned upside down when a man is found dead in her beeyard, only to discover the victim is her nemesis.
The police are calling the brutal death murder and Josiah is the number one suspect! Fighting an unknown enemy in the glamorous world of Thoroughbreds, oak-cured bourbon, and antebellum mansions, Josiah struggles to uncover the truth in a land that keeps its secrets well.

Josiah faces the world with sarcastic humor and a number of quirky, oddball friends that can only be found in the Bluegrass town of Lexington, the heart of Kentucky horse country. Some mysteries end with a bang, some are not solved at all and the first one ends with a cliff hanger, but they always entertain in the sassy, humorous, and suspenseful world as Josiah goes about sleuthing. Like Agatha Christie's Miss Marple, Josiah observes the world about her and solves even the must troubling cases.

Death By A HoneyBee is the first of an episodic series and as such ends in a cliff-hanger which is crucial to the rest of the series. Attached to HoneyBee is a bonus chapter from Death By Drowning which continues our heroine's story in linear time. I hope you enjoy reading Death By A HoneyBee as much as I have enjoyed writing it. It was a labor of love.

The Josiah Reynolds Mystery Series is just like fried chicken - finger-licking good! Add some sweet tea and a piece of chocolate pecan pie with a scoop of ice-cream and you got yourself some tasty reading.

We are introduced to a cast of characters and a storyline that, like honey, is sweet and delicious. -Linda Hinchcliff, Chevy Chase Magazine

Dolores Johnson

Book 1: When Betty the Bag Lady brings in a Dyer's Cleaners bag stuffed with a bloody suit, it doesn't take long for Mandy Dyer, the owner, to start wondering which of her clients may have been murdered, or worse, which of them may be a murderer. She soon learns it could be both when a high-priced lawyer is found bludgeoned to death in his office at a local law firm that Mandy handles for cleaning. Even though she turns the suit over to the police and finds herself smitten with the handsome (and single) detective in charge of the case, she can't help but start her own search for clues in the enormous catalogue of her customers' clothing.

Someone, however, wants to make sure there are no clues: Dyer's Cleaners is ransacked in the middle of the night, Mandy is suddenly receiving calls from a heavy breather, and someone is trying to track down Betty the Bag Lady. And everything takes a turn for the worse when Mandy finds Betty half dead from stab wounds in front of her store.

Now Many, along with her best stain remover, Mack, are going to scour through every detail to search for a murderer who is much closer to them than they think.

Anyone have an E for me? I'm stretching this into Dog Eat Dog, which you can find here. This happens to be #23 in the series!

Lawyer Andy Carpenter and his golden retriever, Tara, work to free a man who risked it all to help a dog in need in Dog Eat Dog, the twenty-second installment in the beloved series from bestselling author David Rosenfelt.

Lawyer Andy Carpenter and his wife, Laurie, enjoy walking their dogs, Tara and Sebastian. By this point in their marriage, it’s routine. When out for one of their strolls, their simple ritual isn’t so simple anymore. Across the street, a man is mistreating his dog. Three things happen at once: Andy yells, Laurie runs to stop the abuse, and so does a closer passerby, who so thoroughly beats the owner that both are arrested when the cops arrive.

Andy scoops up the dog and takes him to the Tara Foundation, the dog rescue organization that’s always been his true passion. Meanwhile, at the police station, the passerby is identified as Matthew Jantzen, and he’s wanted for murder. Andy and Laurie are struck by the fact that Jantzen, a man on the run, would nevertheless intervene to help a dog, and decide to find out more.

Dog Eat Dog features the charming cast of characters—old and new—that David Rosenfelt is known for, and the dogs that accompany them.
